We do not currently support an ‘eSIM Quick Transfer’ process however, it is possible to move an eSIM from one device to another. The current process involves two distinct steps, the user needs to:
- Uninstall the eSIM from the old device
- Reinstall the eSIM on their new device - instructions on how to install an eSIM can be found in this article.
The eSIM profile is designed to be securely tied to a single device at a time. Therefore, it needs to be removed from the original device before it can be added to a new one.
How to remove an eSIM from an old device?
The process for uninstalling an eSIM is straightforward and typically done through the device's settings.
- For iOS: Go to Settings > Mobile Data (or Cellular), select the eSIM plan to remove, and tap "Remove Cellular Plan."
- For Android: The path may vary slightly by manufacturer, but generally, go to Settings > Connections > SIM Manager, select the eSIM to remove, and then choose the option to "Remove" or "Delete."
It's crucial to uninstall the eSIM from the old device while the user still has access to it.
What happens if the user no longer has access to the old device?
If the end-user has already migrated to a new device and did not uninstall the eSIM from their old device before getting rid of it, the old eSIM profile will remain locked to the now-inaccessible device.
Unfortunately, this means they will not be able to reuse that specific eSIM. In this case, you will need to issue a replacement or advise them to purchase a new eSIM.
